Although an initial law passed before 2006 had granted a number of Indigenous Peoples rights to these territorial reserves, not all of the indigenous communities living in the area has been included. This decree, Nº 001-2014-MC ,guarantees that these reserves will now be legally recognized as indigenous reserves, granting indigenous communities with stronger and better protected rights.
